BlueHost Surpasses 800,000 Domains Hosted

Categorized as: Bluehost Hosting

Bluehost has now surpassed the 800,000 mark for domains hosted, this makes Bluehost one of the top hosting providers in the shared hosting space. Bluehost has grown a lot over the past few years, only 2 years ago they were hosting less than 500,000 domains which is a lot in itself.

I congratulate Bluehost on their milestone and hope it is not too long before they make 1,000,000 domains hosted, at their current rate it wont be too long.

Bluehost Addon Domains

Categorized as: Bluehost Addon Domains

In my last post I explained how to register a domain through Bluehost. In this post I will explain how to now use that domain registered previously as a completely different web site on Bluehost.

1. First login to the Bluehost Control Panel, now click on “Addon Domains” as shown in the image below.

Addon Domain cPanel

2. After clicking on “Addon Domains” you will be shown the page as seen below.

Create an Addon Domain

3. “New Domain Name” – Here is where you enter the domain you wish to host on your account.

4. Once you have entered in your new domain that you wish to host, the control panel should have populated the “Subdomain/FTP Username” and “Document Root” sections for you. Most users will have no reason to change these populated values, as they are typically useful to everyone, unless you have a specific reason for changing the values I suggest they are left as is. Take special note of the document root entry, when you use the File manager or FTP to upload the website this will be the directory you will need to place the web sites files in.

5. Next enter your password to use for this addon domain, thoughtfully Bluehost supply a password strength indicator as well which is useful for indicating whether the password you have chosen to use is up to scratch. Typically it is a wise move to use a strong password on your account to prevent someone hacking into your account.

6. After clicking “Add Domain” you will be notified whether adding on the domain was successful, and provided your domain has propagated properly you should be able to upload your web site straight away and have the web site visible to everyone at that domain.

For those of you wishing to use more than a single domain on your Bluehost web hosting account, you can register new domains on your account using the control panel at a cost of $10 (USD) per domain.

Registering a new domain at Bluehost is very easy to do. To perform a new registration login to the control panel, under the section called “Domains” click on “Domain Manager”.

Next click on the “New Domain” tab across of the top of the Domain Manager page. This will take you to a section of the control panel as shown below.

Bluehost Technical Support

Categorized as: Bluehost Support

After being with Bluehost for a short time now I though it was a good time to try out their technical support. Bluehost offer several options for contacting them to ask questions about your hosting.

Live Chat - In short, the Bluehost Live Chat feature is excellent. To use this you simply go to the Bluehost web site, click on the “Live Chat” icon, enter the required details and your question, within a short period (approximately 2 minutes in my case) a technical support member had answered my question, and was keen to hear any other questions I may have needed answered. I was very impressed with the promptness of response, and with the knowledge of the support operator I was chatting with. If only all web hosting providers offered such a quick way to get in touch with a support person.

Support Email - Email support was also good but it could have been a little quicker, I lodged a support ticket through the Bluehost “Help Center”, the question was replied to in approximately 48 hours which is a little on the slow side, but given the quick replies offered by the “Live Chat”, the delay is not that bad. I would consider using the email ticket system for issues that are not time sensitive, for example if your server is down.

Phone Support - Testing this was rather simple, it was just a matter of dialling 888-401-4678, following the prompts, and then asking the question of the support member, this is also an excellent way to contact Bluehost. You will speak to the same knowledgeable staff that man the Live Chat interface and email ticket support, and should have your question answered just as quickly as communicating through Live Chat. Personally I will use phone support for times when I just can’t put my question in text form that is clear and understandable, when speaking to a support operator is necessary to get my question across.

In conclusion, the support provided by Bluehost is exceptional, and definitely a cut above my previous web hosting provider, I will have no hesitation in recommending Bluehost to my friends and colleagues.
