Bluehost Addon Domains

Categorized as: Bluehost Addon Domains

In my last post I explained how to register a domain through Bluehost. In this post I will explain how to now use that domain registered previously as a completely different web site on Bluehost.

1. First login to the Bluehost Control Panel, now click on “Addon Domains” as shown in the image below.

2. After clicking on “Addon Domains” you will be shown the page as seen below.

Create an Addon Domain

3. “New Domain Name” – Here is where you enter the domain you wish to host on your account.

4. Once you have entered in your new domain that you wish to host, the control panel should have populated the “Subdomain/FTP Username” and “Document Root” sections for you. Most users will have no reason to change these populated values, as they are typically useful to everyone, unless you have a specific reason for changing the values I suggest they are left as is. Take special note of the document root entry, when you use the File manager or FTP to upload the website this will be the directory you will need to place the web sites files in.

5. Next enter your password to use for this addon domain, thoughtfully Bluehost supply a password strength indicator as well which is useful for indicating whether the password you have chosen to use is up to scratch. Typically it is a wise move to use a strong password on your account to prevent someone hacking into your account.

6. After clicking “Add Domain” you will be notified whether adding on the domain was successful, and provided your domain has propagated properly you should be able to upload your web site straight away and have the web site visible to everyone at that domain.
